Mathematics is the backbone of engineering. Major objective of the department is that every student becomes familiar with mathematical thinking. He should be able to recognize the guiding principles and ideas 'behind the scenes'. The students must get the impression that Mathematics is a science of practical importance. The contents and character of Mathematics needed in applications keep on changing with the time. Therefore courses have been planned according to the frequency of occurrence in practical applications. For instance topics like, Matrices, Complex Analysis, Differential Equations, Statistics and Real Analysis are fundamental and would remain indispensable. Study of Numerical Analysis is essential in technological applications due to invent of high-speed digital computers. Now a day's optimization is a key word for an engineer, therefore the department also offers a course on Operations Research.
